The Microsoft strategy starts with inviting your friends and connections to connect on Windows Live Messenger (not sounding a lot like portability here -- I am thinking "import from").

So I tried the only currently available option -- Facebook. A login to Facebook screen (with Windows Live logo but a Facebook URL) popped up, and the first try on login failed (hmmm, a phishing site?). But the next screen had the Facebook logo, and it logged me in just fine. I didn't however, see where I could add anyone to an invite list, so . . . I gave up and started blogging.

In other words Dopplr only imports the social relationships that already exist.

Dopplr's also pretty good at suggesting other people who I might know, but who I hadn't already got round to adding on my other social networks.

My only frustration is the lack of vCard import; better still, Dopplr could allow you to enter the URL of a vCard on your own web server, and simply pull updates from the card as they're effected from your end.
